HOW TO EVALUATE WEB SITES--Authority and Accuracy

Cartoon image of stack of books
  • Authority and Accuracy: Who created the page?
Reputable pages should identify the author(s) of the page, because that gives you an idea of the accuracy and reliability of the site's information.
  • Things to consider:

    • Is the author someone who's an authority in the field?

    • Is the author an organization that is reputable?

    • Is there an "About Us" link that tells you who's responsible for the content of the page? If so, what does it say about that person's or organization's credentials or authority?

  • Example of an authoritative, accurate site:
  • American Mathematical Society
